We have seen substantial volatility in sterling and UK government bonds since the Chancellor’s ‘mini-budget,’ which among other things has caused problems for pension schemes and forced the Bank of England to step in to buy long-dated Gilts. Given this backdrop we thought investors would benefit from hearing our portfolio managers’ view of recent events, and how we can look to mitigate against this increased level of volatility within our portfolios.
Eoin Walsh gave an update on fixed income markets, touching on what has been going on in UK markets, as well as how the events of recent days fit into the overall macro picture, including inflation and the likely path of central bank policy elsewhere in the world.
The TwentyFour Income Fund invests solely in floating rate European ABS and is set to benefit from the current environment by providing material credit protection and rate upside, without the associated volatility. Portfolio Managers Aza Teeuwen and Marko Feiertag hosted an update for investors on Thursday 21st April.
Defined by the realities of persistent inflation and an uncertain geopolitical backdrop, bond market conditions during 2022 have proved nothing short of challenging. In our latest investor update, TwentyFour partner Eoin Walsh evaluated how the present environment has affected central bank policy, the impact on credit markets and TwentyFour’s outlook.
After an interesting start to the year that has already brought large moves in rates markets and kept inflation in the headlines, Eoin Walsh looked at the major headwinds facing fixed income investors and laid out the reasons why we are positive on the asset class in 2022. Eoin explained why we think investors should be cautious of government bonds, gave his view on the credit markets and highlighted some of the areas of fixed income that he believes can still offer attractive yield opportunities.
